At the first stoplight (US Route 45 which becomes Neil Street in Champaign), turn left/north. Drive roughly three miles through three lights. At the fourth light, turn left/west onto Windsor Road. Drive one mile. At Prospect Avenue, turn right/north. Drive for three miles and get better directions from the hotel staff... I-57 South to church: Exit onto I-74 East to Champaign. Exit right/south onto Prospect Avenue. Drive roughly three miles, going through several stop lights (the final light is Kirby Avenue). The church will be on your right. I-74 to church: Exit south onto Prospect Avenue. Drive roughly three miles, going through several stop lights (the final light is Kirby Avenue). The church will be on your right. Hotels to church: Get directions to Prospect Avenue. Drive south roughly three miles through several stoplights. The final light you drive through will be Kirby Avenue. The church will be on your right. Church to reception: Get on Prospect Avenue. Head south (that's a right turn out of the parking lot) through one stop sign until you reach a stoplight at Windsor Avenue. Turn left/east and drive east through three lights and two stop signs. Turn left/north onto Stone Creek Boulevard. Stone Creek Golf Course will be on the right side of the street. Anywhere to the Kovacs: I'm going to assume by now that you can find Prospect Avenue (the street the church is on). Continue south on Prospect past the church until you hit Windsor Avenue. Turn right/west onto Windsor Avenue (turning left was what we did yesterday to go to the reception). Continue through two stop signs, and then turn right onto Briar Hill. Their house will be on the right side of the street. But here's what you're really after: what's the weather going to be like? Well, we can't really say because it's been different the last four winters Lynne's been home. We've had unseasonably warm (40-50 degrees), sunny and snowy (20-40 degrees), and cold, gray and ugly (0-20 degrees). [Ron would like to emphasize the cold-gray-ugly winter as something he remembers every day that he had to walk to class during the winter, but Lynne would like to point out that if he was co-oping in California, how many Illinois winters can he remember?] We're both hoping for sunny and snowy--the light, powdery kind that makes everything look pretty and doesn't affect travel, but we'll just have to wait and see... Basically bring your jacket and warm layers, and you can't go wrong. If you are staying for any of the activities on Sunday, bring a pair of jeans (or at least something comfortable and casual). Brunch: Well, of course we'll start the day with the brunch mentioned above. Have we mentioned Sue's cooking? There will be tons of food, so please come! Dinner: How about some Papa Del's pizza? (Only the best pizza on the planet, according to Lynne...and I think Ron agrees. Or at least he'll agree that it's the best pizza in Champaign-Urbana.) We'll choose the location and the time a little closer to the event... After dinner: We can hit the campus bars or head to Jillian's where they have a bar, pool tables, darts, and video games. No one knows how crowded it will be, but we can hang out and ring in the new year! For those under 21, we offer the Peck house as a bright and cheery alternative. |
